Centre to set up handloom textile park at Viridhunagar

Center has identified Virudhunagar, the south part of Tamil Nadu to set up the first handloom textile park. It plans to set up 5 such parks and the next one to come up at West Bengal. Virudhunagar Handloom Textile Park will come up with an investment of Rs.4750 million and likely to provide employment to 50,000 people in that locality. Already, there are 25000 weavers working in and around Madurai. Apart from this, the state govt, is investing Rs.250 million to train these weavers in modern design and technology through National Institute of Fashion Technology, Chennai.
