Vaikuntha Perumal Temple in Kanchipuram is one of the oldest temple with stunning Dravidian architecture. It was also known as Sri Paramapadanatar Temple. It was built during Pallava dynasty in the early 6th -8th Century period.
The temple is one of the 108 Divya Desams and the Lord Vishnu here was worshipped by Thiru Mangai Alwar.
The architecture is similar to the one we find in sea shore temples in Mahabalipuram, which was also built during Pallava period. However, the temple has rich Hindu traditions and patronised by various kings and saints over the years. The temple is revered much in Nalayira Divya Prabandham – a poetry collection about Lord Vishnu.
