Vietnam-based leading electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer VinFast is planning to set up a manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu. The company has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with TN government where both players will invest around USD two billion to set up a new integrated EV facility. The project is expected to span five years, with an intended commitment of USD 500 million for the first phase. Strategically located in Thoothukudi, the project seeks to evolve into a first-class EV production hub in the region, with an annual capacity of up to 150,000 units. Construction of this plant is expected to start this year.
