Council for Leather Exports is planning to set up a mega leather park in Vellore district of Tamil Nadu. The surrounding area of Vellore with Vaniyanbadi,Ranipet, Ambur are already have functional leather clusters. Now, the mega leather park will have a land area of over 100 acres and will house micro, mini and small leather enterprises. It will also house a design centre and laboratories. The total investment envisaged is around ₹ 3,500 million.
Currently, there are more than 700 units of small and medium leather enterprises operating in the sector, where the women workforce is closer to 80%.
