Chennai Port to develop a dry port at Sriperumpudur

Tamil Nadu government had allocated 125 acres of land at Mappedu in Sriperumbudur to set up a dry port and a multi-modal logistics hub with an investment of Rs. 1000 million. It will come up on Mappedu near Sriperumbudur SEZ and will be set up on BOO basis. The private operator will get a 30 year license and it will have facilities like off dock container freight station, rail and road connectivity to national network and an on-site customs house. It may be noted, the Chennai-Ennore road and the 4-lane elevated corridor to Maduravayol has been put on fast track will be completed soon.

In August 2021, the state government has signed an MoU with Chennai Port Trust, the Tamil Nadu government (through TIDCO) and the National Highways Authority of India (National Highways Management) to develop the park.
