National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has begun modernisation of Trichy-Tanjore highway. At a cost of Rs 78 crore, it has begun renovating the Trichy-Thanjavur national highway (NH) to enhance its quality. The first phase of the project involves renewing the two-lanes of the four-lane highway connecting Trichy and Thanjavur districts, with the remaining two-lanes to be worked on subsequently.
Completion of the first phase is expected by April 2023. The project spans a distance of 49 km from Mariammankoil, situated on the outskirts of Thanjavur city, to Thiruverumbur in Trichy city. Phase-one of the work has been initiated by the concessionaire on the stretch between Thiruverumbur and Thirumalaisamudram.
