Tamil Nadu Granite industry is at cross roads. There is no shortage of materials, granite resources are available in plenty in eastern and western ghats. However, the state government is not providing licences due to various issues like political issues and activism.
Due to this, the granite industry in Krishnagiri, a backward district will suffer much in future. Though, the current players are continuing operation but are expanding in other states like Rajasthan. With lack of quarries, the sub segment industry of tombs and monuments, slabs is also facing issues. They are forced to import slabs and stones from other states, which is prohibitively expensive.
