Chennai to have second new airport in Parandur

Tamil Nadu government is planning to set up a second new airport near Chennai in Tamil Nadu. After a long period of discussion, spanning over 10 years, the government has selected Parandur, a village located 70 kilometers from the capital Chennai. It is adjunct to the Chennai-Bangalore highway.

In December 2022, the state government has invited bids to select a consultant, who can assist the development of the airport and for working on obstacle limitations, market demand, air-traffic forecast, environment impact and draw up a master plan for the area. TIDCO the state industries promotional body will select the consultant for the project.

The new airport will have two runways, two passenger terminals, a cargo terminal and an MRO. The Parandur airport to be built at Rs 20,000 crore will handle around 100 million passengers per annum.
