NLC to set up pilot project for conversion of lignite to methanol

NLC India is planning to set up a lignite to methanol project in Neyveli in Tamil Nadu. The company is working on a pilot project for production of 1,200 tpd (400,000 lakh tpa) of methanol using 2.5 million tonne of lignite. The feasibility report is ready and the project has received approval from the company’s board. The project cost is estimated at ₹ 44,000 million and will be funded through debt-equity ratio of 80:20.

The project is expected to be implemented by an overseas technology supplier, yet to be selected, on a lumpsum turnkey basis. Engineers India is likely to be awarded the project management contract.
